#FillTheTank ! Sharks in huge finish to regular season

Two games left, two teams, one Playoff place available. The final week of the BBL regular season sees the DBL Sharks Sheffield vying with BBL Cup winners Cheshire Phoenix for the last place in post-season. A single win for the Sharks and they are in. Cheshire need to win both their remaining games and hope the Sharks lose both of theirs if they are to dance this year. Standing in their way? Well for the Sharks it’s Glasgow Rocks and Plymouth Raiders. For the ‘Nix it’s Worcester Wolves and London Lions.

This Thursday 26th April, Glasgow Rocks are the visitors to the EIS for the Sharks final home game of regular season. Currently in fourth with a 20-11 record, the Rocks have won their last three games against Leeds (100-76), Manchester (86-82) and Newcastle (63-59) and could mathematically still finish in second. They have recently been without the likes of John Bunyan, Gareth Murray, Ally Fraser and Kieron Achara, who did so well in making the bronze medal game at the recent Commonwealth Games in Australia. Outside of that group is Earl Brown Jr, who is pouring in 14.66 points per game and has been highly effective in their absence. Arguably, this is the best Rocks line-up in many years and the list of talent continues in the form of NCAA standout Nate Britt, Sheffield-born Will Hall and England and Great Britain’s Kofi Josephs.

The Sharks wind up regular season on Sunday (29th April) in Plymouth. The Raiders have won two of the last five, against Manchester (87-82) and Leeds (110-72) but have sat in the lower reaches of the table since mid-season and currently have an 8-23 record. It’s been something of a transitionary season for the Raiders, under new ownership and having to deal with a few internal issues as the campaign went on. Their recent stand-out has been Tre Bowman, who is racking up 16.59 points per game and going hard on the boards have been Zak Wells (6.79 rebounds per game) and Will Neighbour (6.18 rpg).

What’s gone has gone, consigned to history. All that matters for the Sharks is the here and now. The team that has delighted so often this season (and frustrated once or twice!) is still around and is still very, very capable. Now is not the time to bemoan what has gone before. Now is the time to fill the bleachers, bring the noise and give Atiba Lyons and his men the best possible chance of grabbing that last Playoff position. Season 2017-18 is drawing to a close and Thursday night at the EIS represents the last chance to play a part in the outcome of a long campaign on home territory. Players and fans will be giving it their all. The drama that is the beauty of this wonderful sport!

The DBL Sharks Sheffield need you! This Thursday 26th April, Glasgow Rocks are the visitors to the Tank for the final home game of regular season. One win and the Sharks are guaranteed a Playoff place. We need the volume turning up to eleven as Atiba and the guys look to continue the Sharks proud record of reaching post-season. In short, we need to #FillTheTank !
