Sharks make up for travel nightmare by edging out Scorchers

BBL Championship

Surrey Scorchers 84-89 DBL Sharks Sheffield (18-24, 32-45, 59-67)

It took a mammoth task for DBL Sharks Sheffield to even get to Surrey Sports Park as they fought travel chaos and arctic conditions in a game that was delayed as a result.

But it proved to be worth it for Atiba Lyons and his side as they scooped a nail-biting seventh league win of the season to climb into third place and make the snowy conditions en-route back to Yorkshire more bearable.

Leading scorers – Owumi 16, Williams 14, Steel 12, Hicks 12 (Scorchers) Wroblicky 19, Gachette 18, Alexander 18 (Sharks)

Turning point – Dirk Williams didn’t have his greatest shooting night, but mentally, his big triple with less than 5 minutes left on the game clock which gave Sharks a double-digit lead was huge. And, the visitors needed that cushion too.

Key stat – Scorchers will be kicking themselves for losing by just 5 points after missing a monumental 15 free-throws.

Game Hero – It was a team effort by Sharks, but centre Tony Wroblicky stood out with a very special and almost unstoppable 9 of 10 shooting effort.
